Who I Am

Hi! My name is Megan.

Tongue

Who I Am:

I am a Master’s candidate in Animal Behavior & Conservation. I absolutely love what I do.

I am probably thinking about animals, intelligence, cognition, evolution, behavior, ecology, ethology, the cosmos, the Drake equation, cortical folding, stories, creation, humanity, cooking, or something else.

My strangest hobbies are evolutionary biology, listening to heartbeats, and talking to squid.

What I Do:

I am currently a Masters candidate in Animal Behavior & Conservation. I am fascinated by non-human minds and sociality. I work in a lab that studies cognition and communication in large-brained mammals such as dolphins and elephants. My goal is to contribute to our body of knowledge on cetacean behavior.

I am also a writer, and am always seeking new engagements. I am most interested in artistic nonfiction, especially science and travel writing. Beautiful science writing satisfies the curious mind and the passionate soul, and betters our planet by expanding public understanding. I was a AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellow in 2013.

I am an amateur photographer and an avid swimmer and scuba diver.

Where I Am:

I am a new transplant to Baltimore, MD.
